Open a Door
I’m reading “Detox Your Spiritual Life in 40 Days” by Peter Graystone, and finding it very insightful. There’s a chapter called “Open a Door” where Graystone makes the point that as Christians we need to live our lives as though at any moment anyone could peer in to our lives as through an open door and be able to see nothing but goodness. His final paragraph I find most inspiring.
“So how do you know what to do when you are living with the door open? Imagine what standards will feel natural, easy, comfortable, joyful to everyone in heaven, and set your heart on living them out on earth. They won’t feel so easy and probably not so gratifying from a personal point of view, but they will feel right. What standards of language will seem enriching in heaven? Use them now with confidence and there will be nothing that you can only say behind closed doors. What sexual standards will seem selfless and thrilling in heaven? Practice them now so that there is nothing which seems a guilty secret. How will your relationships look in heaven, when hurts and jealousies and lies are things of the past? Live out now what you actually are: someone hidden with Christ, not someone concealing dusty stuff in the corner that the vacuum cleaner will never quite reach.”
