The Power of “NOW”
I know you, you must come up with ideas all the time, that are so astounding, so perfect… with such creative GENIUS! Well, maybe not so much, but to the point, it happens that I come up with new ideas that I find exciting all the time, but what do I usually do with them? Well, put them off until later, I’ll even write them if I’m in the mood. But do you know what happens to these ideas? Rarely anything, because it’s become a habit of procrastination, and I think to myself “It will be awesome… Tomorrow!”. That’s where the power of the “NOW” comes in.
Lately, I’ve been forcing myself to take a lot more of my spare moments I would spend thinking about doing things, and actually do something. Like, now for instance, I thought to myself: wouldn’t be good to write a blog post? And then it dawned on me “Why not now?”. And here we are.
If you weren’t aware, I work with a children’s organization called City Kidz. We put on a program that involves music, multimedia, games, and lessons every Saturday. I put together the program, but my specialty on Saturday is the almighty “Games”, the holy grail of any aspiring host.
So I’ve been thinking how lovely it would be to have a spectacular video opening with that catchy song “Let’s Get It Started” by the Black Eye’d Peas. Well, I’ve put it off so long now, I got fed up, I want it NOW! Well, I spent a good portion of Wednesday making the intro and I think it’s superb, if I do say so myself.
This is but one of the few things that I’ve been doing, some haven’t been completed yet, but are a lot further than if I just said “Later”. But I haven’t yet taken full advantage of doing things in the NOW. Using the power of the “NOW” to get thing’s done will allow you to become alot more effective, allowing you to achieve so much more. This is nothing new, but I thought I’d share. My advice to you is whenever possible, make an idea into REALITY as soon as you can, don’t fuss over perfection, but make it tangible, so you can see if you want to take it further.
Just be aware though, the power of the “NOW” can displace other tasks and projects that may have an impending deadline, and I’ve learned this the hard way. So, be careful to use discretion when jumping in to anything that will take time away from projects that are more important or time specific.
