20,000 Dollars for Inner City Ministry, Brought to You by Blogging… Sort Of.

My good friend Todd Bender just told me how much he’s loving the Wordpress blog/site I set up for him a few months ago. He told me how that ever since City Kidz switched from the old Flash version they had, that he’s constantly impressed with how easy Wordpress is to use. And not only that, but Google can’t seem to get enough of them. Because it’s so easy for people to find them now, they were found out by Blenheim. After getting to know City Kidz a little better they decided to throw a charity golf tournament to raise money for City Kidz. In the end, the tournament raised $20,000 dollars for City Kidz. This is how much it costs to run a bus for a year, which City Kidz uses weekly during their program.

City Kidz, if you don’t know, is a ministry that works with the inner city kids of Hamilton. Every Saturday (from September to December, and March until June) they bus over 500 inner city children to a theatre where they sing songs, play games, and learn a lesson. Afterwards, they watch Sponge Bob Square Pants on the big screen, and enjoy a weekly promotion (like pizza, McDonald’s Happy Meals, candy bags, freezies, and more), and then we bring them back home. For many of the kids, it’s all they look forward to during the week. Volunteers go out and visit the kids in their homes every Thursday or Friday to give out flyers, and to get to know the families. Many close relationship’s are built from this line of work.

I’ve been involved with the organization for six years, and I’m continually impressed with the impact made by the organization. I’m just glad I was a small part of such a great thing, and that I can help make a difference in the inner city.
